Bio-Acoustic Synthesis
Ircam, Centre Pompidou, 2024TU Dublin, Ireland.
An ongoing project exploring the intersections of bioacoustics, technology, and ecology.
Developed as part of my PhD research at TU Dublin and during a three-month residency at IRCAM, Centre Pompidou (Paris), the project investigates soundscapes and field recording practices, with a particular focus on endangered and extinct sonic environments—some of which now exist only in archival recordings.
At its core is the development of a sound synthesis system designed to imagine and generate potential sonic futures for lost or threatened soundscapes. This interactive system is being created for use by artists in multimedia and installation contexts.
The project will culminate in a body of sonic and multidisciplinary artworks and installations, employing the synthesis system and research findings to provoke critical reflection on soundscape ecology and the fragility of our acoustic environments.
