The Hand Listens
2025 Paintings and Field Recordings
The Hand Listens is a series of paintings generated from field recordings using a custom sound analysis system. Each recording is digitally translated into a set of instructions that guide the painting process, converting sonic information into physical marks.
Developed from recordings made in a former industrial park in Barreiro, Portugal, the works reflect on the labor and tactility of handmade processes in contrast to the immediacy of digital analysis.
